What does an IP Address Mean?

An Ip Address (192.168.01) can be defined as the internet address of a device which is connected with the internet. This address helps the device to communicate with the internet to receive or send information. It can also be defined as a unique number assigned by the Internet Service Provider to the device. Here we will discuss Static IP vs Dynamic IP.

Work of an IP Address

The IP Address helps the user to send or receive data packet or information from the internet. When the user searches for something on the internet, the internet transforms the details into a DNS. Now the information for that particular DNS or query is delivered by the search engine to the IP Address of the device. In other words, the IP Address serves as the address of the device to get or send information using the internet.

Types of IP Address

There are two types of IP Address which are assigned by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) which are as follows.

  1. Public IP Address.
  2. Private IP Address.

Allocation of IP Addresses

When in a Home or local network, the router allocates IP Addresses to the users in two types.

  1. Static IP Address.
  2. Dynamic IP Address.

Static IP Address

This type of IP Address remains fixed in nature even when the device is disconnected from the network. As the name declares that this is static in nature. Usually, this type of IP Address is used in Business firms or while connected with VPN.

Dynamic IP Address

The Dynamic IP Address can be defined as the IP Address which keeps changing every time a device reconnects with the network. These type of IP Address are assigned through DHCP. The devices in the local network receive this type of IP from the router.
